About Us
With the interest in microbiome science grew drastically in the recent years, the use of germ-free animals in research has surged globally. Being the first gnotobiotic animal facility in Hong Kong, our facility was established in 2022 to support the University of Hong Kong in this field of study. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and dedicated staff, we strive to provide high quality germ-free animals as well as a controlled, sterile environment to cater experiments.
The Gnotobiotic Animal Facility currently provides C57BL/6GF animals to the university. With our advanced equipment and rigorous protocols in place, we ensure the animals we provide meet the highest standard.
We offer two types of housing system for germfree / gnotobiotic studies to facilitate researchers to accomplish their research goals. The ISOcage system, with 100% bioexclusion, allows the study to be conducted in different treatment groups, while the isolator provide the best solution to studies which accessory equipments such as the behavioral equipment are essential. Our technicians will provide training to researchers to equip them with the skills required to conduct their germfree/ gnotobiotics experiments successfully.
Breeding and colony maintenance
- Trexler-type soft-sided isolators for housing central breeding colonies.
Experimental holding facility
- Individual ISOcages® and Trexler-type soft-sided Isolator for maintaining animals in germ-free or gnotobiotic conditions to support both short-term and long-term research studies.
- ISOcage® Biosafety Station provides excellent protection while animals are being handled
- Provide C57BL/6GF mice
- Generation of germ-free mice by Caesarian rederivation (coming soon)
