Collaborating Institutions and Non-Local Facilities

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
CCMR has established agreements in place with other local tertiary institutions to support collaborative animal research, testing, and teaching activities. These MoUs establish a framework for cooperation in animal care and use, including the sharing of animal‑related services where appropriate. They outline each party’s responsibilities for ethical oversight, animal welfare, veterinary care, regulatory compliance, reporting of adverse events, and ongoing monitoring of animal‑related activities. The agreements are designed to promote scientific collaboration while ensuring high standards of animal welfare, adherence to institutional and regulatory requirements, and mutual transparency between the participating institutions.

The Centre currently has signed MoU’s with the following partner institutions:
City University of Hong Kong (CityU)
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU)
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
Drug Safety Testing Centre (DSC) under the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP)

Non‑Local HKU Facilities
In addition to institutions with which formal Memoranda of Understanding are in place, the University of Hong Kong maintains three non‑local facilities as part of the HKU institutional network: HKU MILES, HKU Shenzhen Hospital, and HKU Ziri. These facilities are not covered by a formal MoU with the Hong Kong–based animal care and use programme. Each of these facilities operates as a separate entity under its own local laws, regulatory requirements, and governance frameworks, and maintains an independent institutional ethics committee responsible for the review and oversight of animal care and use activities. Ethical approval, regulatory compliance, and operational oversight for animal research conducted at these facilities are therefore managed locally and independently.
